Fuera de Cuba, es muy común escuchar que este país es una isla detenida en el tiempo, en la que predominan carros antiguos, edificios deteriorados, cigarros, ron, comunismo y nada más. Claro está que estas cosas existen en Cuba, pero este punto de vista estereotipado no permite que los extranjeros entiendan el país ni que aprecien sus particularidades. Ni lo malo, ni lo bueno. Esta serie de fotos intenta ofrecer una mirada a la realidad cubana. Si bien los cubanos se enfrentan a varios retos, no es menos cierto que la isla está llena de alegría, solidaridad, energía y lo rutinario. Desde las ciudades hasta el campo, los momentos cotidianos se descuidan en las percepciones globales de la experiencia cubana. Cuba no es un lugar antiguo perdido en el tiempo. Outside of Cuba, it is very common to hear that this country is an island frozen in time, in which old cars, deteriorated buildings, cigars, rum, and communism predominate—nothing else. Of course, these things exist in Cuba, but this stereotyped view does not allow foreigners to understand the country or appreciate its particularities. Neither the bad, nor the good. This series of photos tries to offer a glimpse at the Cuban reality. While Cubans face several challenges, it is no less true that the island is full of joy, solidarity, energy, and routine life. From the cities to the countryside, everyday moments are neglected in global perceptions of the Cuban experience. Cuba is not an antique place lost in time. Cuba exists right here, right now.
